How much does a small business website cost in 2026?

Abstract blue and grey price tags and coins

If you have asked three web designers what a website costs, you probably got three answers that were hundreds or thousands of dollars apart. That is not because one of them is lying. It is because "a website" can mean a one-page placeholder or a full booking and sales system, and most quotes do not say which.

Here is a plain way to think about the price, so you can compare quotes properly.

The four costs behind every website

  1. Design and build. The one-time work of planning the pages, writing the layout, and making it look right on a phone.
  2. Hosting and security. The server, the SSL certificate (the padlock), backups. This is a monthly or yearly cost whoever builds the site.
  3. Tools that do a job. Booking, an online store, payments, a quote calculator, email follow-up. Each one adds setup work and often its own subscription.
  4. Care after launch. Updates, fixes, small edits, and someone to call when something breaks. This is the cost people forget, and it is why a cheap site often becomes an expensive one.

Where cheap quotes usually cost you later

  • The price covers a template with your logo on it, not a layout built for your type of business.
  • Hosting, edits and support are "extra", billed per request.
  • Booking, payments or forms are not included, so customers still have to phone you.
  • You do not own the site, so moving later means starting again.

A useful test: ask what happens the first time you want to change your opening hours. If the answer is "open a ticket and pay an hourly rate", that is part of the real price.

What a fair price should include

Whatever you choose, check that the quote names each of these in writing: number of pages, mobile design, a working enquiry or booking form, hosting, who owns the site, and what monthly care covers.

How Creo Systems prices it

We use fixed prices with a small monthly fee, so you know the total before we start. Our current plans:

  • Launch: $997 setup + $129 a month. Up to 5 pages, mobile-first design, enquiry form, hosting and updates.
  • Growth: $1,997 setup + $249 a month. Up to 10 pages, a layout built for your industry, booking or quotes, local search setup.
  • Store: $2,997 setup + $299 a month. An online store with payments, product pages and order emails.

The monthly fee covers hosting, updates and fixes, so there are no surprise invoices when you need a change.
